Battery Habersham contained eight twelve-inch
steel rifled mortars. Each emplacement housed four guns arranged in a rectangle.
These mortars fired 800-pound shells. In addition to the mortar emplacements,
there were magazines and shot rooms, storage rooms, and relocating rooms,
which helped direct the gunfire. There were two observation stations atop
the battery. Seven officer and 219 men were needed to operate this battery.
The mortars were removed and shipped to France during World War I.
