This woman is using a trowel to smooth the sides of a wall unit in an effort to make a profile of the stratigraphic features. You can see the layers of earth and other organic deposits in the wall. A small root protrudes from the wall in front of her. Some interview subjects remember visiting the site as school children, and remember seeing pottery, jewelry, and even skeletons preserved in these unit profiles. Once they were photographed, drawn and measured for the record, they were removed for laboratory analysis, conservation, and storage. Note the woman's pipe.
