In this photo, taken in November 1937, some of the women are pausing to fill their tobacco pipes. This photo, and others that clearly show women's faces, were used when we were trying to identify the people in the photos. Several times a day, slump piles, seen in the lower right, middle, and back of the photo, had to be moved to other parts of the site. If they were allowed to build up to high, they could collapse into the trench.
